Detail Itinerary

Pickup from your hotel and day hike to Jamacho Gumba

Phase 1: Pickup and Drive to Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park Entrance

The journey begins with a drive from central Kathmandu/your hotel to the Nagarjun gate, one of the main entrances to Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, located approximately 6 km from Thamel. This drive takes around 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Phase 2: Begin the Hike

After securing the necessary permits and paying the entry fee for the national park, you’ll start the trek. The trail begins with a gentle ascent, gradually becoming steeper as you proceed. As you walk through dense forests, the chirping of birds and occasional glimpses of monkeys add to the experience.

Phase 3: Reach the Resting Point (Halfway)

After about two hours of steady climbing, you’ll reach a resting point with a few benches, ideal for a quick break and hydration. This spot provides a scenic view of the valley below.

Phase 4: Arrive at Jamacho Gumba

Approximately an hour from the resting point, you’ll arrive at the top of the hill, where Jamacho Gumba is located. This hilltop monastery is a pilgrimage site, especially revered by Buddhists, who often come here to meditate. Here, you’ll get to take in expansive views of the Kathmandu Valley and, on a clear day, the distant Himalayas.

You’ll have ample time to explore the monastery, learn about its history, and interact with the monks. The peaceful atmosphere offers a unique chance to meditate or simply sit back and enjoy the surroundings.

Phase 5: Explore the Surrounding Area and Enjoy a Packed Lunch

Take some time to walk around the surrounding area. Many visitors bring a packed lunch to enjoy at the top. After enjoying your meal and the views, prepare for the descent.

Phase 6: Begin the Descent

Start your descent back down the trail. The return journey is faster, as it’s mostly downhill, and takes approximately 2 hours.

Phase 7: Complete the Hike and Drive Back to Kathmandu

Arriving back at the trailhead, you’ll meet your vehicle for the return drive to Kathmandu. The hike officially concludes with your arrival back at your starting point in the city.
