Everest Gokyo Lake Trek

Our team will warmly welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer you to the hotel. You can use your free time to visit nearby shopping centers or parks. You stay at the hotel overnight.

We will have breakfast early morning and take a flight to Lukla (35 minutes).  Due to traffic congestion, Lukla flights from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) may be rerouted to Manthali Airport during the busiest trekking seasons (March, April, May, September, October, and November). Our guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive to Manthali taking 4-5 hours of drive. You will fly to Lukla in 20 minutes from Manthali.  In the remaining months (December, January, February, June, July, and August), the journey to Lukla from Kathmandu will take you 35 minutes by air.

We will hike from Lukla to Phakding, which will take about 3-4 hours. Along the trail, you will view the beautiful Kusum Kanguru. We will stay at a tea house in Phakding.

• Altitude: 2860 m

After having light exercise and breakfast, we will walk about 5-6 hours (10.7 km) from Phakding.  We will pass through Sherpa villages and enter Sagarmatha National Park. Here, the required documents will be checked to enter the park. The starting point for trips to Everest and other nearby Himalayan peaks is Namche Bazaar.   We will stay at the tea house overnight.

• Altitude: 3440 m

Today we prepare our bodies for high altitudes. We will hike to Hotel Everest View or Khumjung village. We will hike to Hotel Everest View and it take us 3-4 hours. After hiking you can visit monasteries, the Sherpa museum, and other places. We will stay at the tea house overnight.

• Altitude of Hotel Everest View: 3880 m

After leaving Namche, the trek to Dole begins with a climb and a scenic walk along the Dudh Koshi River valley, followed by a descent into lush pine and rhododendron forests. The trail narrows after crossing the river, leading to a steep ascent to the village of Mong, where trekkers enjoy lunch with stunning views of Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other peaks.

The final stretch involves a challenging uphill climb, eventually reaching Dole at 13,270 feet. This picturesque village offers breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains, gorges, and serene lakes. Dole serves as a key stop for trekkers heading to Gokyo, with a range of accommodations available.

• Altitude: 4038 m

The trek to Machhermo, taking 3-4 hours, begins with an easy plain walk before ascending a hill and gaining over 365 meters of elevation. The trail is rugged, passing through steppe grasslands, with captivating views of Cho Oyu appearing during the climb.

Machhermo, reached by evening, is a serene village nestled by a creek, surrounded by mountains and pastures. While the fields are barren in summer, they bloom with vibrant wildflowers during the monsoon. The day ends with an overnight stay at a tea house in this picturesque location.

• Altitude: 4470 m

The trek to Gokyo begins early to tackle the long, gradual climb. After leaving Machhermo, the trail ascends steeply, with increasingly dry terrain and lower oxygen levels, raising the risk of altitude sickness. Trekkers cross the Ngozumpa Glacier and navigate rocky, jagged paths through the valley, rewarded with stunning views of Kantega and Cho Oyu.

The route passes the first Gokyo Lake, a partially frozen, small but beautiful body of water. Approaching Gokyo Village, trekkers are greeted by breathtaking views of Cho Oyu and towering glaciers. The third Gokyo Lake lies below the village, while the rocky trail leads to the fourth lake, offering spectacular scenery and views of Gokyo Ri. After exploring, the day ends in Gokyo Village, where trekkers find comfortable accommodations.

•  Altitude: 4750 m

Early in the morning, we hike up to Gokyo Ri (17,575 ft), a challenging but rewarding climb over rocky terrain. After 1-2 hours, we reach the summit to witness stunning sunrise views of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, and other peaks.

After descending to Gokyo Village for breakfast, we pack up and head down the trail to Dole. The descent crosses the Ngozumpa Glacier and glacial moraine, offering breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains, glaciers, and stone-walled villages like Khumjung and Kande. Passing wooden bridges and remote settlements, we eventually arrive at Dole for an overnight stay in a tea house.

• Altitude: 4038 m

After breakfast, we climb down the trail from Dole and head towards Namche. The trek starts with a steep descent to Phortse Tenga, which takes about an hour and a half. Watching the towering cliffs and hills, we then gently climb down the stone stairs to Mong La.

Walking from the side of the ridge and along the rocky trail, we’ll get to the Mongla Village. The trail then descends to Kyangjuma and finally arrives at the beautiful Sherpa town, Namche. While we’re on our way to the village, you can see many Tibetan monasteries, Chortens, and prayer flags. Overnight stay in a lodge at Namche.

• Altitude: 3440 m

The final day of the Gokyo Valley trek takes us from Namche to Lukla. After breakfast, we descend through the valley, passing remote villages and navigating zigzag trails through pine forests to reach Phakding along the Dudh Koshi River. Crossing multiple suspension bridges, the mostly downhill path leads us to Lukla after 6-7 hours, marking the end of our journey with Nepal Eco Adventure.

•  Altitude: 2860 m

Flights from Lukla to Manthali operate in March, April, May, October, and November, taking about 20 minutes. After landing in Manthali, travelers embark on a 5 to 6-hour drive to Kathmandu, though this duration may vary depending on traffic conditions. Upon arrival, they are transferred to their hotel in Kathmandu via a shared tourist vehicle.

During January, February, June, July, August, September, and December, flights operate directly from Lukla to Kathmandu, taking approximately 35 minutes. Upon landing, travelers are similarly transferred to their Kathmandu hotel via a shared vehicle. Flight schedules and operations depend on airline decisions and the volume of travelers during each month. In the evening, a farewell dinner is hosted at a fine restaurant.
